- 1970年後，埃塞俄比亞爆發咖啡漿果病，這種病會導致咖啡樹受損嚴重，造成重大損失。
- 1972年，農民嘗試用化學殺菌劑，雖有成效但非長久之計。他們轉而利用當地咖啡多樣性尋找抗病良策。
- 1973年，埃塞咖啡機構Jimma農業研究中心（JARC）開始在埃塞西南地區選了19個地點做採集，後共採集了639顆咖啡樹的種子。科研人員對這些種子進行實驗室以及田間試驗，最終選出13種對咖啡漿果病抗性，且耐旱高產。
- 而74xxx、75xxx就是這批有抗性的咖啡樹培育改良而來。

74代表1974年的年份，標誌這個品種首次被收錄名錄，最後三位數字則是試驗樣本編號。

74158是矮樹種，闊葉，生豆整體大小均勻，整齊圓潤，風味展現出柔和的莓果特性，尾韻中帶有鮮明的香料尾韻，香味表現豐富。隨著近年在TOH、COE比賽屢屢獲獎，74158這兩年也成為埃塞咖啡圈明星。
